It's only fitting that Michael Fassbender, known for his role as Magneto in the X-men films, is an avid fan of the heavier genre.
As a guest DJ on California's Free Form KCRW he played Metallica's Master of Puppets (a perfect choice I must add) before eating more into his musical preferences,
He commented "Nowadays, people just listen to everything, it's great, but back when I was at school - high school - you were a goth or you were into grunge or you were into punk or you were into metal and that kind of defined your style - in what you wore and the groups you hang out with.
I think in places, you know, growing up in the countryside, I think music is a very big deal for teenagers and especially in places away from cities. It's kind of the one outlet you can get. There's not a lot of options other than, you know, fields and mountains which are beautiful and great, but in terms of any action it was found through some sort of music. So yeah, heavy metal was big,"
It's always good to hear when someone in the spotlight holds true to heavy metal. It's been mentioned that Fassbender's favourite music includes that of Metallica, Sepultura and tracks from Slayer's Reign of Blood album.
It's safe to say that I would not turn down having a pint with Magneto.

Heavy Metal Dads Rock
Here's a nice one - a German advert for paint (I assume) has depicted the life of a goth in her school years who is constantly under the tyranny of her lesser minded peers due to her clothing of choice.
But who better to make her feel like the awesome person she is than her own Dad. And how does he do so? Like any loving father of a Metalhead - he painted the entire house black.
My main question now being - where can I bulk buy some black paint?
Check it here

Horny Devil in Vancouver [NSFW]
Nothing says 'Good Morning' like passing a statue of a naked Satan rocking the horns and a hard on.
The 8ft tall sculpture found it's way on top of a podium in the Grandview-Woodlands in Vancouver beside a train line for thousands to see. Neighbours of the new addition to the area were less than pleased when they woke up to the morning wood.
Complaints swiftly flew in about the lengthy Lord of the Underworld (jealousy perhaps?) and the local authorities quickly left him limp in the back of a truck.
As yet no one has claimed ownership of the provocative statue but instead are sitting in silence appreciating their devilish work.
Now you can't expect a sight like this to go undocumented - photos may or may not offend you depending on your inner schoolchild's innocence.

Black Veil Brides - Back to awful
I'm pretty certain if BVB weren't BVB, Andy Biersack wasn't singing and they didn't wear a cattle's worth of leather they would be slightly more tolerable.
After the release of Heart on Fire from the band earlier this week, it looked like their team-up with producer Bob Rock was setting them on course to being near the right direction. After this new track Faithless came out though, doubts have fallen again.
But hey, if I'm wrong then let me know! (caution advised.) Catch it here

Knot news! - masks, music and more
FINALLY! We've been eagerly waiting in the dark for the release of the video for the official single The Devil in I from Slipknot.
Not only is this an awesome video for and awesome song for what will be a no doubt awesome album, but it gives us the first look at the new masks, what the band are all about and even the rumoured identity of the the new bassist.
The video is definitely an "out with the old and in with the new" kinda style. Killing off the band members throughout then jumping back to the scene with them all playing complete with new masks shows the progression of the band.
As for the red cloaked individuals who are involved with the members' demise, could they stand for the loss of Paul Gray? The force that's driving them on? Who knows? Who cares!
What this release shows the band is coming back full force and have their sleeves packed with stuff that will only make us love them more.
What are your thoughts? Get them known!

Slipknot are just warming up
Talking to WAAF, Corey Taylor comments on how the band have expertly executed the act of foreplay regarding the massive online hype on the run up to their newest album release 5. The Gray Chapter.
Months before the start of getting the internet excited their website and social media pages were put on lockdown up until the dribs and drabs of teaser clips began to flow. The Negative one, described by Taylor as "a gift to the fans", was first off the pile to start the online avalanche. This dark video was all visual with no sign of the band members but still managed to let fans know what they were in for.
Following that with, along more teasers, was the release of the official single The Devil in I in which the new masks were revealed, yet not the identities of the new bassist and drummer.
Taylor said "How this band built its foundation was street level, word of mouth, people talking about it. That's really just what the internet is. We've learned how to use these tools - we've been able to take an old-school approach with mystique, anticipation and excitement, which I think is a lost art.
People are more prone to just throw up on the internet: 'There you go, there it is, and let's pray to God it's a hit'. We love the foreplay of it. We love building that up and just getting it to that fever pitch just before it's about to explode, and then giving the audience every ounce of payoff it deserves."
Though the new members' details are still yet to be officially released, rumour has it that Paul Gray's replacement is none other than Alessandro 'Vman' Venturella. Vman is known for work with Krokodil as well as being a roadie for Mastadon, Fightstar and Coheed And Cambria.
As for the drummer, besides his long brown hair and beastin' percussion skills,
More to the online speculation is the original stand-in for Gray Donnie Steele has left the backstage, bass playing spot.
Let's roll on the 20th October for the climax release of 5. The Gray Chapter.

Slipknot – The tale of two masks
With more lookie-lookie stuff being flung out of Camp Knot and none of that containing info on identities of the new additions to the band folk are starting to get restless. The Negative One and official single The Devil in I now both have videos as well as more artwork and concepts being released.
Keep the new band members’ details unknown was a good hype tactic to build the excitement but now fans are becoming itchy and agitated. Thankfully in an interview between frontman Corey Taylor with Full Metal Jackie, we got some weight lifted when he announced details of the new band member’s masks...and there’s some controversy. Taylor commented:
We wanted to make something that still looked unified but still stayed with the spirit of what the band is all about. Instead of trying to find something that was individualistic, we designed — well, Clown designed a mask that the drummer and the bass player will both wear. On one hand, they get a mask, but at the same time, it’s not the individual mask that we in the band use. We knew that any attempt to do anything like that might be taken as disrespectful, but at the same time it’s part of the way of moving, getting past the hardest steps, which is just moving on. So, we decided that we would come up with a mask that works for both the bassist and the drummer and that’s what they’ll wear on stage.
The band’s former and original guitarist Donnie Steele has been standing in for bass since the loss of Paul Gray, but not in the spotlight of the main stage. Question is if he has now moved to be the full time bassist or they found a replacement for the replacement. As for the drummer, nothing more but rumour has been flying about as to his (or her?) details.
On a personal note, I can’t say that I’m completely for the idea of the same masks. Slipknot have always stood for individuality while together, a unit – be yourself but complete with those around you - so to turn round and give the two newbies the same mask almost seems like the band sees them as lesser contributors to The Knot and from what we’ve heard so far is not the case.
Maybe I’m just touchy, let me know what you think about the same masks for the new guys.
Either way, all will be answered come the 21st October when Slipknot – 5:The Gray Chapter will be released on Roadrunner.

Overkill or Overdone?
Earlier this week yet another strange idea has come flying out of Japan that has caught the world’s attention: The Kuro Burger
To add, this does not mean it’s burnt to a crisp then flavoured with some cheese. In a statement from Kotaku we get a better idea:
“Burger King Japan is rolling out another "Kuro Burger" ("Black Burger"), with buns made from bamboo charcoal, an onion and garlic sauce made with squid ink, beef patties made with black pepper, and black cheese, which is also apparently made with bamboo charcoal”
Maybe I overestimated the “better” there but you get the picture.
Besides the contents of the burger itself it does look like something Ozzy would choose over a bat head anyday. For me though, not something I’ll be booking a flight for anytime soon.
What about you? Would you dare eat this?

RAMMSTEIN - Down but not out
In a recent interview with TeamRock, Richard Kruspe [Guitarist. RAMMSTEIN] has said although the band are currently on hiatus, a split is out of the question.
Despite the silence from the German group, fans can expect DVD releases of live performances in their absence.
The band make the effort to meet at least once a year to discuss the future and decide whether to move on with a new album following their last release of Live Ist Fur Alle Da back in 2009.
Kruspe says “I think Rammstein can never be over. Those things develop their own chemistry, their own energy. Even if we said it would be over, it would never be over. If you’re asking me if we’re doing something right now, the answer is: ‘We’re taking time off.’”
He adds: “We met a couple of months ago and we were just talking - We decided not to do anything at the moment, so we’ll meet up next year again.
But there’s so many things we have in the pipeline – we have a live DVD, another live DVD, another live DVD. We have so many that we have to work that through.”
Although RAMMSTEIN are on a break, Kruspe has been working on his band Emigrate that have the release of their second album in November. To add to the excitement, Lemmy Kilmister [Frontman,Motorhead].
To close, Kruspe gave reassuring comments of RAMMSTEIN’s place - “We will come back together,” he adds. “I love touring with Rammstein, and if somebody has a vision for a record, we’ll do another record.”
What do you think? RAMMSTEIN return or they’ve unofficially called it a day?
In the meantime, here they are killing it at Download 2013

Another day, another week and things have picked up in my little world!
It's as if someone has shoved a productivity pill up my arse and handed me an energy drink! I'm making right moves in the direction I want to be on and it feels great! Not to mention having bought Grand Theft Auto V (which has been subsequently hijacked by my girlfriend...)to help relax when I'm not on the go.
With a schedule in place, a daily to-do list that will leave me ticking all my boxes you can only expect bigger things from The Devilhorn Journal! Things will be coming into play that will be worth a wait for.
With these big things, a big audience to watch is just as essential! Feel free to share, +1 or whatever you can do help get this baby off the ground! Effort put in is rewarded in time, now obviously I won't be handing out any gig tickets by the end of the week (gutted) the baby steps now can turn into strides in time!
Plus I'd love you forver.

Serj Tankiants nts nts nts
Serj Tankian came out of his musical silence to announce that we should all listen to a track featuring the work of dance icon Benny Benassi.
The track Shooting Helicopters, in all honesty, sounds like something you’d expect to hear blasting from shitty speakers glued into a ’98 modified Vauxhall Corsa. Tankian’s vocals are as spot on as always when you disregard the loops and fades, but the efforts from Benassi show his age. With the electronica scene changing this song sounds nothing but outdated and predictable.
Bottom line, if this is what Serj has been working on all this time I feel for his career.
Maybe I’m wrong? Have a listen and tell me what you think

The Foos are at it again
After the hype of the recent 3 secret UK shows to be played by the Foo Fighters and the first venue being confirmed at the Brighton Concorde 2, fans have been keeping a more-than-watchful eye on the bands movements...and it seems to have paid off.
The second venue has now reached the rumour stage and it’s looking to be the recently opened House of Vans in London. Currently the venues website shows a link for “The Holy Shits”, which was the band’s alias for the Brighton gig, to play tomorrow (Thursday 11th September).
Reportedly the link was sent out originally to fans who had pre-ordered their 8th album Sonic Highways along with the message:
“Hope you don’t mind, I got your email address because you pre-ordered Sonic Highways direct from the band. As a THANKS for that, we wanted to offer you first dibs on tickets for an upcoming secret show in London.”
“This is a FREE show.”
“We opened up a select number of tickets just for you guys to claim before they are made available to the public. If the tickets on this link run out by the time you click - don’t worry -there will be more available to the public later this week.”
For now, it looks like more tickets will be released for this and there is always the 3rd show (which will no doubt have a rumoured venue tomorrow) that you can look out for.

Gene Simmons is flapping his gums again
Gene Simmons is fast on his way to being the grumpiest man in the world, not far behind the late Fred Phelps and a hungover Clint Eastwood. Simmons has recently said in an interview with Esquire that “Rock is finally dead”. This outburst follows a chain of recent comments from the KISS Bassist made on topics like immigration, depression and Donald Sterling.
"The death of rock was not a natural death. Rock did not die of old age. It was murdered,"
Simmons does not blame things such as televised “talent” shows, the increase of awful bands having outstanding social media campaigns, no, he blames file sharing of music online. He adds that no one values music “enough to pay you for it” anymore and that has been the sole contributor to the demise of the genre which makes it exceptionally difficult to new start bands.
"It's very sad for new bands. My heart goes out to them. They just don't have a chance. If you play guitar, it's almost impossible.
You're better off not even learning how to play guitar or write songs, and just singing in the shower and auditioning for The X Factor. And I'm not slamming The X Factor, or pop singers. But where's the next Bob Dylan? Where's the next Beatles? Where are the songwriters? Where are the creators? Many of them now have to work behind the scenes, to prop up pop acts and write their stuff for them."
The KISS Bassist applauds bands and musicians from 1958 through to 1983, commenting that this was "music’s pinnacle"and could ring off a bunch of legendary artists. Examples being Tame Impala and not surprisingly , Nirvana.
"The craft is gone, and that is what technology, in part, has brought us," Simmons said. "What is the next Dark Side of the Moon? Now that the record industry barely exists, they wouldn't have a chance to make something like that. There is a reason that, along with the usual top-40 juggernauts, some of the biggest touring bands are half old people, like me."In Simmon’s crosshairs lies “predominantly white, middle- and upper-middle-class young people who were native-born, who felt they were entitled to have something for free.” He goes on to add “If you believe in capitalism — and I'm a firm believer in free-market capitalism — then that other model is chaos. It destroys the structure."
This is not the first time Simmons has commented on file sharing; in an interview with Super Pop Interviews back in January of this year, he said;
"I think it's all good, because the record companies are in chaos, downloading is in chaos. The foxes have been led into the hen house, so people wonder why there's so few chickens. It's because you allowed your kids to go in there and steal the stuff for free, so record companies are dying and new bands don't have a chance. And new bands should get every chance in the world, and if it means 'The X Factor' or 'American Idol' or any other kind of [outlet], give them a chance. Few of them will survive, if any. But the old-fashioned model of a record company that cares about you and spends a lot of money to try to promote you, that's gone. It doesn't affect the big bands. It doesn't affect my living. We do a hundred shows, and there's more money there than some Third-World countries. But it does intrinsically hurt new bands. You know, the next Elvis [Presley], or the next Beatles, is gonna have a very hard time starting out today."Rock bassist turned political activist in his old age? Who knows! But before the end of the Esquire interview he made sure to sneak in a cover-up apology for his original comments immigration with “I find that many of the more patriotic people are immigrants.”

Foo Fighters are on it
In the past few days the Foos have been teasing and hinting a big announcement that has finally come to light.
In one of three shows, the rock icons have confirmed an intimate gig in Brighton's Concorde 2. As for the other two shows, they remain a mystery that will likely be given the hype and subsequent backlash of fans struck with disappointment from missing the ticket sales.
UK fans have been taking to Twitter to vent their rage at the tickets selling out in what's said to be 22 seconds after release! (Come on though, it's Foo Fighters here). Reports say that fans were queuing outside the Concorde 2 from the early hours of the morning. Not too long after, staff were kind enough to hand out bottles of water to the eager fans before instructing them to head home and try to grab a ticket when released online.
Foo Fighters have recently been announcing a fair amount of upcoming concerts, including their crowd-funded concert in Virginia.
The band will play to a 1500 strong audience who all pledged and contributed towards the event that was originally proposed by avid fan Andrew Goldin. September 3rd was when the band officially spoke saying

Black Veil Bob Rock?
So here’s an interesting one: Bob Rock has teamed up with teenage fan-girl magnets Black Veil Brides to produce their next album. For those of you who don’t know BVB, you’re lucky.
Their first album We Stitch These Wounds(2010) managed to grow their fanbase and provide the drive to produce another 2 albums Set the World on Fire and Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones (2013).
Considering their once panda meets heavy metal style, the brides have ditched the image and seem to be focusing on improving their music. Miracles can happen I guess...
Bob Rock, known mostly for his work with Motley Crue and Metallica (for better or worse depending on your opinion) has joined BVB and plans are underway for the album release on October 28th this year. With the release being only 8 days after Slipknot’s 5: The Gray Chapter, I can’t see any charts being topped by the brides.
None the less, despite my heavy biased opinion, their released single Heart of Fire isn’t too bad. Andy Biersack still sounds like he’s singing with a blocked nose and the unnecessary number of solos is still far too high but I can see this doing better than all of Black Veil Brides previous stuff.
Is it still the same old Black Veil Brides or has it improved? Even just a bit?
As always, stay heavy.

News from Camp FOB is promising!
Centuries (Hyperlapse Edition) has been let loose to the world from Fall Out Boy this week and with more than half a million views in less than a day...well, that's something.
Zane Lowe had the pleasure of Pete Wentz' company as he was joined for his Hottest Record In The World where Centuries was released. The band's guitarist saw fit to describe the track as a "David vs Goliath" song to then say “We wanted to write a song that empowered people who are a little weird.”
Granted, Fall Out Boy succeeded in this as it doesn't quite follow their songs recently from Save Rock and Roll (2013) nor their much earlier stuff from Folie a Deux. It's also been said from Wentz that "4/5 songs" off the next album have already been writing and said album should be ready for your ears in early 2015!
With that good news, you can be left with Centuries itself

Slipknot will “cover the planet”...sounds good, right?
In a recent interview with 94.3 KILO, Corey Taylor has set the tone for the coming months with the band. The big questions like “who is the drummer?” and “is The Negative One written about [ex-drummer] Joey Jordison?” have been left to the imagination, though comments on the upcoming tour, the album itself and the new bad masks.
Speaking on the content of the album, Taylor says “There’s a handful of songs on the album that are about Paul. There’s a bunch of songs about the band and everything we’ve been through in the last four years; all the emotions we’ve had to deal with, the reaction from the world.
“A lot of people have no idea what it’s been like. You don’t understand. For me as a lyricist, being able to tell the story as honestly and darkly as I’ve been able to – I’m stoked for people to hear it.”
5: The Gray Chapter is described by the frontman to be “dark, moody, artistic” and, more importantly “heavy as hell”. The two released tracks so far The Negative One and The Devil in I have both showcased the Slipknot that we’ve been waiting patiently this long for. Taylor went on to say:
“There’s some brutal screams on it, but there’s also huge melodies on it. I can’t tell you how stoked I am that we were able to pull this off. It’s a fantastic piece of work. I’m really proud of it.”
As for the new masks? They are set to make their debut appearance on video for The Devil in I which is soon to be released. “Some have changed in subtle ways. My mask changes dramatically because, for me, the mask is a representation of what’s going on spiritually, emotionally, artistically. It’s about what’s coming next. People are going to get a lot when they see this video – it’s going to blow their minds.” Taylor says.
So for now, we’ll have to be happy with knowing that Slipknot will be touring the US with King 810 and Korn, that 5:The Gray Chapter will be out on the 21st October and of course, new drummer is shy as fuck.
As always, stay heavy.

Hold out for these and as always - keep your metal heavy.
