Talking to WAAF, Corey Taylor comments on how the band have expertly executed the act of foreplay regarding the massive online hype on the run up to their newest album release 5. The Gray Chapter.
Months before the start of getting the internet excited their website and social media pages were put on lockdown up until the dribs and drabs of teaser clips began to flow. The Negative one, described by Taylor as "a gift to the fans", was first off the pile to start the online avalanche. This dark video was all visual with no sign of the band members but still managed to let fans know what they were in for.
Following that with, along more teasers, was the release of the official single The Devil in I in which the new masks were revealed, yet not the identities of the new bassist and drummer.
Taylor said "How this band built its foundation was street level, word of mouth, people talking about it. That's really just what the internet is. We've learned how to use these tools - we've been able to take an old-school approach with mystique, anticipation and excitement, which I think is a lost art.
People are more prone to just throw up on the internet: 'There you go, there it is, and let's pray to God it's a hit'. We love the foreplay of it. We love building that up and just getting it to that fever pitch just before it's about to explode, and then giving the audience every ounce of payoff it deserves."
Though the new members' details are still yet to be officially released, rumour has it that Paul Gray's replacement is none other than Alessandro 'Vman' Venturella. Vman is known for work with Krokodil as well as being a roadie for Mastadon, Fightstar and Coheed And Cambria.
As for the drummer, besides his long brown hair and beastin' percussion skills,
More to the online speculation is the original stand-in for Gray Donnie Steele has left the backstage, bass playing spot.
Let's roll on the 20th October for the climax release of 5. The Gray Chapter.
As always, stay heavy.
